WeTask Dispute Resolution & Platform Responsibility Policy

Platform Role

WeTask is a technology platform that connects people who need tasks completed (“Customers”) with independent service providers (“Providers”). WeTask does not employ Providers, does not supervise work performed, and does not act as a contractor, subcontractor, agent, or partner in any task agreement formed between users.

WeTask charges a platform service fee for access to the marketplace. Payment for tasks can be arranged directly between Customers and Providers unless WeTask's payment services are used in which case users recognise that WeTask may now hold funds on behalf of the transaction.

Responsibility for Task Agreements

All task terms, including scope of work, pricing, timing, materials, warranties, and quality expectations, are agreed directly between the Customer and the Provider.

Both parties are responsible for:

  • Clearly defining task requirements
  • Confirming pricing and payment terms
  • Agreeing timelines
  • Documenting any changes to scope
  • Keeping records of communications and agreements

WeTask is not a party to these agreements and is not responsible for performance, non-performance, delays, defects, or losses arising from task work.

Consumer Protection Laws

Where applicable, consumer protection laws - including the Consumer Guarantees Act in New Zealand - apply between the Customer and the Provider directly.

This means:

  • The Provider is responsible for meeting legal service standards
  • The Customer has rights directly against the Provider
  • Legal remedies must be pursued between those parties

WeTask is not the supplier of the services and does not assume supplier obligations under consumer law for tasks performed by Providers.

Dispute Resolution Support

While WeTask is not a party to task agreements, disputes may arise. WeTask may offer limited support to help users resolve issues constructively.

WeTask may assist by:

  • Providing platform message and activity records
  • Reviewing task descriptions and agreed terms submitted through the system
  • Facilitating communication between parties
  • Encouraging fair and reasonable resolution
  • Restricting accounts where serious misconduct is indicated

However, WeTask:

  • Does not investigate workmanship quality
  • Does not make binding legal determinations
  • Does not enforce payment or refunds
  • Does not act as an arbitrator
  • Does not guarantee outcomes

Final dispute resolution remains the responsibility of the Customer and Provider.

Disputes may be triggered where one party rejects a completion request.

In such cases:

  • Task completion is paused
  • Payment (if applicable) is not processed
  • The matter is escalated for administrative review

Where no response is provided within the required timeframe, tasks may be automatically completed without dispute escalation.

Payments and Financial Responsibility

Payments may be conducted either directly between users or through WeTask's platform payment system.

Where platform payments are used:

  • WeTask may receive and hold Customer payments until release at task acceptance
  • Funds are held pending completion or administrative determination.
  • Funds are then released from Held Funds into the Provider Wallet.
  • WeTask may continue holding funds while disputes, fraud investigations, chargeback reviews or legal compliance processes remain unresolved.

WeTask does not guarantee payment outcomes, enforce payment outside the platform, or act as a financial intermediary beyond facilitating platform payment functionality.

For direct payments, all responsibility remains between the Customer and Provider.

Licensing & Regulatory Compliance

Providers are solely responsible for ensuring they are legally permitted and properly qualified to perform the services they offer.

This includes:

  • Holding required trade licenses
  • Professional certifications
  • Registrations and permits
  • Insurance coverage
  • Safety compliance

Customers are responsible for verifying that a Provider holds any required licenses or certifications before engaging them for regulated work. WeTask may allow Providers to display credentials but does not guarantee their validity.

Tax Obligations

Providers operate as independent service providers and are responsible for their own tax obligations.

This includes:

  • Income tax reporting
  • GST or VAT where applicable
  • Business registrations
  • Record keeping
  • Tax payments

Customers are responsible for meeting any tax obligations that apply to them under local law. WeTask does not withhold or remit taxes on behalf of users unless legally required and explicitly stated.

Risk & Due Diligence

Users engage with each other at their own discretion and risk. WeTask encourages all users to perform appropriate due diligence before entering into a task agreement.

Recommended checks include:

  • Reviewing profiles and ratings
  • Checking prior work history
  • Confirming identity
  • Verifying licenses where required
  • Using written agreements for larger jobs
  • Confirming insurance coverage for higher-risk work

Account Action in Serious Cases

WeTask reserves the right to suspend or remove accounts where there is evidence of fraud, misrepresentation, repeated unsafe conduct, abuse of the platform, or serious policy violations.

Account action does not constitute a legal judgment and does not replace formal dispute resolution channels.
